Hello amigos.
Welcome to my Substack, where I explain how I build the models I use in my videos.
For today, we’ll be discussing the methodology used in this week’s video, which you can watch here if you haven’t already: How AI-Generated Models Will Revolutionize the Economy
The big question with this video was: how will labor force participation be affected if young men can receive Universal Basic Income and have a robot girlfriend to spend their days with?
Answering this question was fairly simple, especially compared to some of the other models I’ve made.
My first stop was the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, where I found the size of the civilian labor force, broken down by age and gender. You can have a looksie here
If we look at the 2021 column, we can find the total civilian labor force size, as well as the target population of men between 16-34.
Next, we need to know how many of those workers are currently incels. Note: You could say that a large percentage of current day incels are already out of the work force, and so, my findings are overestimated. This is probably true, but would also make my life hard, so I ignored it.
This article from Healthline generously supplied me with a breakdown of “incel-rates” by male age group. So, I just created a weighted average for the two age groups (16-24 & 25-34) to get my number for current-day incels.
Next, and arguably, ARGUABLY, the flimsiest part of this analysis was the assumption for how many current day incels (men who are in the labor force, but not receiving any female attention) would become VR-addicted bugmen.
You may be surprised to know that there is not a lot of data on this phenomenon. So, I closed my eyes, thought really hard for several hours, and carefully decided upon 50%.
And that’s how we arrived at our number of 3.1M lost souls! This doesn’t factor in population projections, if the percentage of incels will increase over time, etc. etc. Because again, that would be hard. Here’s what the final analysis looked like.
Thanks so much for reading and watching.
Stay tuned for my next video! Here’s a hint: it’s about the tragedy of the commons, as it relates to the female dating pool. My favorite video yet.
Talk to you all later!
